The ConocoPhillips Science Experience offers multiple days of science-based activities for school aged children during the holidays throughout the year.
This year, I was asked to create a fresh new identity for the program, including a new logo and information brochure.
Early on in the project, comic books were cited as the main source of visual reference. The initial direction was to riff on vintage E.C. designs. While fun, these were deemed a little too retro for the project, which was after a bright and fresh look.
With this in mind, I developed a new style more in keeping with modern comic books. This time, a team of four scientists was created, each representing a different speciality. The concept being that in the future the same team of scientists would feature in different adventures. This year, owing to a marine biology focus, they were placed in an underwater facility, observing and protecting the marine habitat.
The interior was also kept dynamic and energetic, with the hex pattern from the cover carrying through to holding shapes for images.
This was a really fun project to work on and I’m excited to see how we can develop the concept into the future.
